Why you shouldn’t get a Gas Card!
So you pull up to a gas pump and have a stroke just looking at the price of a gallon of gas and think to yourself, “How can I save on gasoline?” Drive less, I say to you. But then you look to the side of the pump and see this amazingly annoying advertisement that promises you save 5-10 cents per gallon, how can you not fill out a form. Bad idea.
Why? Simple.
Mostly all of those are expire shortly after you activate your card, typically within 30-60 days after activation. You car has 15 gallons and you save $1.50 a week, for a huge grand total of $6 a month. Not my cup of tea.
Also, you are restricted to buying gasoline from that one direct gas station as your send out these gas cards to your spouse or children. Of course you can buy gasoline from another station with cash or credit, but your within the logic thinking that your getting gas a lot cheaper which isn’t the case.
A great way to save on gas is to become a member of either Costco or Sam’s Club. A lot of these wholesale warehouses have gas stations on property and are run by these companies. The gasoline is usually 2-5 cents per gallon cheaper and is the exact same quality as a typical stand alone gas station.
Also, use a credit card that gives a nice rebate for gas purchases. These cards usually give rebates or cash back for groceries as well as gas and these promotions do not expire.
